〔Read Your Own Saju〕 ☯️ What Is Saju?: Saju is a study of destiny that writes the four "pillars" of your birth — year, month, day, and hour — in the Eastern symbols of "Heavenly Stems" and "Earthly Branches," to read your inborn nature and life's flow. It does not nail down the future; it is more a map that gauges what vessel you were born with and when certain energies grow strong, helping you steer life wisely.
🏛️ Four Pillars, Eight Characters: Each pillar is one Heavenly Stem and one Earthly Branch — eight characters in all, your "eight characters" (palja). The Year pillar speaks of roots, ancestors, and early life; the Month of parents, society, and work; the Day of yourself and your partner; the Hour of children and later years. Which character sits in which pillar is the first clue to each area of life.
🌟 The Day Master — Your Core: Among the eight characters, the Heavenly Stem of the Day pillar — the "Day Master" — represents the "you" of the chart. Which of Gap/Eul (Wood), Byeong/Jeong (Fire), Mu/Gi (Earth), Gyeong/Sin (Metal), or Im/Gye (Water) it is sets your basic nature. A Gap-Wood Day Master stands upright like a tall tree; a Gye-Water one is delicate and fluid like seeping water. Start by finding your own Day Master.
🌳 Reading the Five Elements: Look at how the eight characters spread across the five energies — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. If one energy is excessive or entirely missing, that imbalance becomes your life's task and the point to supplement. Adding the colors, directions, and activities that replenish a lacking energy is the traditional wisdom of the "useful god" (yongsin). The key is not to blame the imbalance but to see what, added, smooths the flow.
🧭 How to Read Your Own Chart: (1) Use a Manse calendar (saju calculator) to enter your birth date and time and draw the eight characters. (2) Find your Day Master to grasp the "you." (3) Count the spread of the five elements to see which are strong and which are lacking. (4) Gauge whether the Day Master stands firm or weak. (5) Read the relationships among the characters (the Ten Gods) for the flow of wealth, work, and bonds. At first, steps 2 and 3 alone are enough — knowing the grain of your own energy is the beginning.
〔Read Your Own Tojeong〕 📜 What Is Tojeong?: Tojeong is a New Year's fortune text said to have been written by the mid-Joseon scholar Tojeong Yi Ji-ham. It tells the great flow of the year and the fortune of each month in poetic lines drawn from nature. Less a flat prophecy, it is closer to an old wisdom-calendar that suggests the frame of mind with which to pass the year.
🎍 When to Read It: Traditionally you read the year's fortune in the first lunar month — the start of the new year. It is a custom of settling the mind at a year's opening and reckoning in advance which months to take care in and which to move forward in. Even outside the first month, it is good to open before any new beginning, when you wish to sketch the grain of the year ahead.
🔢 How the Hexagram Is Formed: After converting your birth date to the lunar calendar, a set method yields three numbers — the upper, middle, and lower trigrams — which combine into the hexagram for that year. This hexagram becomes the "key number" of the year's fortune, leading to its overall reading and monthly verses. If the reckoning is cumbersome, today's Tojeong services build the hexagram automatically from your birth date alone.
🗓️ Reading the Monthly Verses: Beneath the year's overall reading, monthly verses run from the first to the twelfth month. Because the lines are figurative — "the well fills with water," "the wind pushes the sail" — read them not literally but for the flow and counsel within. Move boldly in the months said to be favorable, slow by a beat in those that warn caution — taking that rhythm as a reference is the charm of Tojeong.
🕯️ How to Approach Tojeong: Tojeong is a book of wisdom that tells when to take care and when to gather strength, rather than nailing down fortune. Even if a difficult month appears, it is no cause for fear — take it as a kind hint to look ahead. In the end it is your days, not the verses, that shape the year; consult it lightly, but make the great decisions yourself, with care.
〔Read Your Own Numerology〕 🔢 What Is Numerology?: Numerology is a Western art of reading inborn temperament and life's flow through the numbers in your birth date and name. Said to descend from the school of Pythagoras in ancient Greece, it holds that every number carries its own vibration and meaning. Where astrology looks to the sky, numerology looks to the numbers within your birthday and name.
🧮 How to Find Your Life Path: The core is the Life Path. Add every digit of your birth date until a single digit remains. For example, May 12, 1990 → 1+9+9+0+0+5+1+2=27, then 2+7=9 → Life Path 9. The exception: if 11, 22, or 33 appears along the way or as the result, it is a "Master Number," left unreduced. This single digit (or Master Number) speaks to the broad direction of your life.
🧭 How to Read Your Own Numbers: (1) Find your Life Path from your birth date for the broad direction of life. (2) Convert your name's letters to numbers (Pythagorean) and add them for your "Expression" number, revealing inborn talents. (3) Add only the vowels for your "Soul Urge" — the deep wish of the heart. (4) Add today's date to your birthday for your "Personal Day," reading the day's energy. At first, the Life Path alone is enough — knowing the grain of your numbers is the beginning.
